Starz News

Purpose:   Updated information

Audience:  Teachers in schools subscribing to Starz

Next Starz Detectives session - Title: Summer Safety : Thursday 19th June 2008 commencing at 1.30pm

This Starz Detectives session involves your pupils helping a Police Community Support Officer in the town of Huntingbridge. By carrying out this activity your pupils will consider young people's behaviour in a number of true to life situations.

A PCSO is sent to several incidents on the beat. In some of the scenarios the young people portrayed are doing nothing wrong, but in others their behaviour is much riskier. The purpose of this activity is to get your pupils to help with the situations that arise in the community, and will, hopefully, make your pupils think about their own actions when they are playing with their friends.

Cambridgeshire Young People's Film Festival

Many Starz schools are involved with this project and have been busy submitting their films. Submitted films are now available to view and schools are encouraged to look at the films that have been uploaded and vote for their favourite. For schools that have now completed and uploaded their films, we are now looking for your publicity! Posters advertising your film can be submitted via the Starz projects area. Some of the best entries may be displayed in the Cambridge Corn Exchange on 'Oscar' night.

Celebrating Language

Purpose: Website update

Audience: Language teachers in primary and secondary schools

Celebrating Language is our fascinating website with videoclips of Cambridgeshire children whose home language is not English. They count, give the names of colours, parts of the body and so on. Among the latest improvements to the site is a new feature in the videobank. Pupils can either upload a video speaking in their family language, or they can record a video online with a webcam.  Visit www.celebratinglanguage.net to see the new facilities.
