Cambridgeshire Education ICT Service Fortnightly Briefing

Friday 4th April 2008

ICT Conference for School Leaders - 1st May 2008 "Challenge and Transformation"

Purpose:    Diary reminder and further information

Audience:  Leadership teams

There is now only one month to go for this year's Headteachers' ICT conference.  The conference is being held at Robinson College, Cambridge. We have previously sent the programme and booking form to all Headteachers.

There will be two compelling keynote speakers:

·         Dan Buckley - Winner of the Becta Secondary Leadership award and the National Teacher of the Year award for Innovation and Creativity. His publication, the 'Personalisation by Pieces Framework', is a student empowerment, competency based curriculum model, backed up by a set of web-based tools suitable for mobile devices.

·         Ian Neild - Ian is a futurologist working for BT, describing himself as a "disruptive evangelist" and makes presentations around the world on technology trends and the social and business impacts.

There are also 9 different workshops to choose from throughout the day.

Stephen Carrick-Davies, Chief Executive - Childnet International, is running a workshop on E-safety - Cyberbullying.  He has kindly agreed to supply a FREE guidance CD called 'Know IT All' to go in the conference delegate packs. Cyberbullying has become a major concern for schools and parents, and this is a good opportunity to discuss the issues with the experts.

To see the full programme please visit our Portal webpage

As usual, headteachers are encouraged to attend for the whole day. Where this is not possible, another member of staff is welcome to take their place for the afternoon workshops.  Attendance is FREE for Cambridgeshire headteachers. A limited number of places will be available for Chairs of Governors or ICT Link Governors again this year.

Book now to avoid disappointment - places are going fast!

To reserve your place please contact:  ict.courses@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or telephone 01480 376670.

Safer Children in a Digital World: Byron Report published

Purpose:   Important e-safety report

Audience: Headteachers, ICT subject leaders

Dr Tanya Byron has proposed a comprehensive package of measures to help children and young people make the most of the internet and video games, while protecting them from harmful and inappropriate material. Her report has implications for schools, parents and children themselves. The full report, a summary for children, and the executive summary can all be downloaded from the Review website (http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/byronreview/). We recommend that you begin with the 12 page executive summary .You will find the longer version full of important ideas and information, and the children's summary will provide a valuable resource for classroom work on e-safety.
