CCN - Power Off alarms!

Purpose:    Important service information
Audience:  Headteacher and ICT Managers

As you know, Education ICT Service monitors all schools network connections, this includes school holidays and weekends. Some schools have been turning off the power to the main data cabinet during school holidays or weekends which triggers an alarm at NTL they and the ICT Service have to follow up, only to find the school has powered the cabinet/switch off. In many instances this has also lead to the router/switches loosing their configuration resulting in unnecessary down time for the school and undue cost for a site visit to rectify this.

There is no need to switch off the power unless electrical work is being carried out and we ask schools to refrain from turning the power off.
