Maintaining specialist CPD for effective support to schools

We work in a rapidly changing Education environment. New and emerging technologies mean that for technicians to effectively support schools their technical support skills need to be constantly updated and developed.

As part of Education ICT Service’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable quality service our technicians undertake compulsory accredited technical training, as well as cross team training including specialist training, on an annual basis. Our 2008/09 training programme included Epson Authorized Reseller training, FMS Conversion training, Protex Cachebox training, HP Switch training, E-Safety training, Ladder Safety training as well as Microsoft course 5049A: Managing Messaging Security Using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

The Technical Services’ Continuous Personal Development (CPD) programme for our technicians ended 2008/09 by completing the Microsoft Certified course 6430A: Planning and Administering Windows Server 2008 during the February half-term, 16 – 20 February 2009.

“As a team we normally manage to stagger our training but due to pressing timescales this was the single largest course with an attendance of 25 requiring a substantially bigger classroom with the necessary equipment.  A special word of thanks and appreciation to Witchford Village College for outstanding hospitality, John Lundrigan for delivering an excellent course and the team for their enthusiastic participation and contributions” Leonard Veenendaal, Technical Services Manager Education ICT Service.
