Wide Area Network Change Requests For Schools
All Cambridgeshire schools have been provided with access to broadband through the Cambridgeshire Community Network (CCN). The security and integrity of this network is paramount as it carries important and often confidential communication traffic across for the County Council. The network was designed to meet the needs of the Council and schools at the time of development and since then has gone through many changes to meet evolving changes to business needs. This is particularly the case with schools as they increase their use of the technologies in schools. The following developments are examples of some of these changes:
- Remote access for staff
- Remote access for pupils
- Central hosting of MIS
- Video conferencing facilities
These changes have to be undertaken through a systematic process which ensures that other aspects of the security of the network are not jeopardised, this is known as the Change Request process.
Other types of work that would require a change control form are:
E2BN/CCN network infrastructure design, IP model (E2Bn/CCN/regional/national), device naming conventions, DNS and proxy configurations, Equipment and service standardisation i.e. Portal, switches etc, support and future developments. Request for in bound services include for example Digital Brain, On-Site MailServers (via Mail Relay), Remote Support and Caching Servers.
